Support Pussy Riot

The day when members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in a penal colony, thousands of people crowded squares and streets in cities all over the world. Condemnation of the court verdict was expressed in Washington and Stockholm, Kiev and London, Reykjavik, Toulouse, Sidney, St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Many celebrities and human rights organisations have supported the band and asked Mr. Putin to free Nadezhda, Ekaterina and Maria. The list includes names of Madonna, Paul McCartney, Björk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sting, Yoko Ono and many others. But apparently Russian authorities decided to ignore opinion of the international community and common sense.

However, the fight is not over. The girls are planning to appeal the verdict as they see it as unjust and unproportional to the deed.

We kept believing that Pussy Riot would be released on Friday. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. We’re adding the balaclavas to our library, so you can put them up on your website and demonstrate your support to the girls. However small this action can be, we know that sometimes last straw breaks camel’s back and hope for the best.

St. Patrick’s Day

Countdown till St. Patrick’s Day is on! This weekend many countries are going to be covered in green. In some of them, the first flowers blossom and cover fields, in others, green overalls and shamrock flags will become a symbol of the upcoming warmth and awakening of spring after long winter.

In many cities around the world crowds of people will participate in parades. Parade hosts in North America and South America, Japan, Australia and Europe have got their hands full with preparations. On 17 March thousands of bars will be open until last client leaves serving beer and snacks. No wonder that St. Patrick is thought to be the most widely celebrated saint’s day in the world. We promise to relax on Saturday too :)

Like millions bartenders, we haven’t come with empty hands to this day either. In our library you can find all sorts of symbols to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish culture. Hats, pins, ribbons and shamrocks are waiting for you to pin them up on your website.

One more thing: from this set on we charge for some images in the library. You can still get most of them for free, but we encourage you to show your support to the project and use paid pictures as well.

New level of customization

Since Makeuptor hit 1000 registered websites on Valentine’s Day, for which we opened a bottle of champaign, we have got a lot of feature requests and questions. Most popular of them are if we’re going to let users put up their own pics and if you can add different pics for different pages. We thought through these suggestions and today we’re ready to do some announces.

Can I add my own graphics to the library?
You will be able to add your own graphics to the library and use it as any other object designed specifically for Makeuptor. Custom pictures will be available only for your personal use, i.e. other Makeuptor users will not see them in their libraries. This feature will be implemented soon.

Can I customize only individual pages of my website?
Yes, you can! A few hours ago we rolled out a special setting for that. Every object can now be tied up to either an individual page or whole website. By default, all new pictures will be linked to a page. Decorations that were added earlier will be linked to a whole website, until you might decide to change this setting.

The Internet has been boiling about SOPA for quite a while now. The act has its arguments in favor, but it is gaining even more arguments against every day. Everybody wants to be heard.

How-to: Decorate your tumblr blog

Use tumblr to share cool stuff with your friends? Want to make it even more fancy without much effort? Then this fairly short illustrated guide is for you.

Step 1. Sign up for Makeuptor
Go to makeuptor.com, enter your e-mail and password you’d like to use for our service. Then specify address of your tumblr blog like this: name-of-your-blog.tumblr.com and click on “Get code”. Don’t close this page as you will need this code later and move to the next step.

Step 2. Add your code on tumblr
This is a bit trickier step, but nothing is impossible, right? To add your code on tumblr, you first of all need to be logged in, then click on the gear-wheel in the top navigation and there click on “Customize your blog”. A panel on the left will appear where you will see a thumbnail of your current theme. Click on “Edit HTML”. There you will see html-code of your page. Find a place in the code before the closing tag </body> and paste the code you received at Step 1. You can click on “Update preview” to make sure that nothing was broken and then click on “Appearance”. You will see that the thumbnail of your theme changed to “Custom theme”. Click on “Save”.

Step 3. Check if everything works
At the previous step you added Makeuptor’s code to your blog and now you need to get back to the code from Step 1 at makeuptor.com and check if everything works. If everything is OK, you can follow the link right there and start adding cool labels to your blog!

The beginning of 2012 has brought us a great amount of valuable feedback, made us explore new possibilities and prioritize the features we want to implement first. We’re also very grateful for your bug reports, we’re doing our best to roll out bug fixes as fast as we can. You’re the best!

Decorating websites with Makeuptor is fun. But Christmas and New Year have passed, and what happens now? Right now we’re adding new decorations for your website. Posted something new on your blog? Mark it with a shining “NEW”-label! And that’s not it yet.

Dull work of adding links to your social network profiles now can be done playfully. We provide brand-new icons for the most known social networks and we’re looking forward to adding more on your request. Each object you add now can be complemented with an optional link in its settings panel.
